Pollution outside Ledbury towers worse than Old Kent Road after councils installation of diesel gene

After Southwark Council installed new diesel powered generators back in October, some Ledbury Estate residents began to complain of a smell of diesel fumes drifting from the generators outside and up into their flats. 

Following these reports, Southwark Green Party member John Tyson kindly offered to undertake some air pollution monitoring on the estate.

In November, John visited the Ledbury Estate to put up two air pollution monitoring tubes. One was affixed to a post on the Old Kent Road junction with Commercial Way. The other on the junction of Commercial Way and Naylor Road (directly outside Bromyard house.)

A month later, during snowy December, John returned to collect the tubes and sent them off to the lab for analysis. The results are startling. They demonstrate that the levels of air pollution directly outside the Bromyard House tower block is higher than the Old Kent Road itself. 

It’s expected that the higher reading outside Bromyard house is solely due to the generators that the council had installed directly outside the towers, and correlates with residents reports of the smell of fumes in that vicinity. Southwark Council have not yet commented on this matter.
